The Slap: Ritchie

Ritchie, of all people, has the tragic backstory that makes for a dramatic appearance in the courtroom. The judge is fed up with everyone concerned.

Hugo is unintentionally creepy. I felt like Anouk cajoling Hugo into holding her infant son after surprise inviting Rosie and her husband (because: drama!) to her baby's party were not the best parenting and friendship choices ever. I was waiting for something dramatic to happen there, and I was relieved it didn't.

Rosie's snarky response to Anouk -- "check back in in 3 or 4 years" was a great way to show Rosie's fundamental flaws in judgment. I still don't believe these characters could ever be friends who spend any real amount of time together.

This is a good summation of the adult characters in this show.

Connie and Ritchie were pretty believably friends though, and their stories were probably the best throughout the series. But some of the secondary adult characters (secondary in that they didn't get their own episodes) like Gary and Sandi were pretty interesting too. Mostly, I would have like to have seen the story spread out more among all the characters, I guess.

I'll probably get bored and check out the Australian series at some point, just to see the difference.

My big question for this episode in particular is: What the hell happened to the weirdly patronizing narration? They just decided to drop it for this episode?
