Transparent: Kina Hora
November 30, 2015 4:06 PM - Season 2, Episode 1 - Subscribe
TRANSPARENT returns -- first episode is available for streaming for Amazon Prime users -- the rest of the season will go live on December 11.
The first episode is a wedding so yes the kids are pretty much that bad, but then you know weddings generally bring out the family crazy so I have no idea if they will remain this bad for the rest of the season.
I thought the slow pan ending was too forced.
Oh and I know it's been awhile since s1, but what is up with the flashback?

My take on the flashback is we'll trace the one family member who made it out of Europe during the war, who survived the Holocaust. I'm assuming it's Grandma Rose, who is clearly set-up to be a large part of Maura's storyline this season. The introduction of the Europe storyline was moving - two moments in time, both parties, both laced with tragedy. All those revelers in 1930s Berlin were about to be murdered. And then, at the end, on Ali's balcony one person appears. Perhaps to say our ancestors are with us? That the family has defeated great tragedy by existing, here in the present? Not sure. Also, as a gay/genderqueer/trans party it also says from them we are here, we've always been here. And we survived and continue to survive.
The flashbacks of the show are well done, but some of the more surreal cuts are a little inscrutable. I guess I still find them jarring after an entire season.

I like your analysis of it, but I agree the introduction of the flashbacks was jarring.

Yes, the kids are all still pretty much terrible.

I loved the whole opening single-shot scene, with the family lined up for the wedding photo all dressed in white with the green background and pops of green. It was so oppressive and tense and exhausting. The whole episode was well directed.

From the opening scene on, I begrudged every time I had to blink. So much going on and so well done!

That was so difficult to watch because too fucking real and then Tammy's family comes in and gets a good picture in like 15 seconds because of course. One of the all time great opening shots right there.
