I think I might have an unhealthy fascination with what, exactly, is the deal with these guys (the alt-right, not the boys in Brooklyn) so I'm enjoying this. Not sure "their infighting is going to derail the movement, whereas ours will work out okay" is a safe assumption in any direction though (to be fair nobody said the second part explicitly).

The idea seems to be, "the contradictions among their various beliefs and commitments will destroy them," but that doesn't sound like a very safe assumption either.

Almost all ideologies contain irreconcilable ideas, even the ones which take a long time to fall out of favor. I don't think it's ever safe to say that contradictions within a set of ideas will lead to the self-destruction of a group that adopts it. Nazism was incoherent garbage, but its believers enjoyed circumstances which allowed them to kill millions, only stopping when they lost a war that almost totally destroyed their power.

I liked this episode. I wasn't really aware of the "hard," "theoretical" alt-right, so it was cool to hear from someone who spends a lot of her time reading their nonsense.

People still believe in trickle-down economics, which shows that incoherent, unsupported ideas are still vigorously alive and well in the 21st. Unfortunately, there's no way the conflict between wanting to be PUAs and also wanting a "trad wife" will sink these scum. It's the same madonna-whore complex that kept Victorian Angels in their Houses while the men chased prostitutes. Nevertheless, I'm really looking forward to Nagle's book.
