Mystery Science Theater 3000: HERCULES AGAINST THE MOON MEN Rewatch
September 30, 2020 4:10 PM - Season 4, Episode 10 - Subscribe
Re-rewatch! It's a Maciste ("my cheesesteak") movie rebranding the main character into Hercules for US distribution. Imagine TV's Frank saying, in his freaked-out voice from Joel's invention exchange, "HERCULES... against the MOON MEN!" Prepare yourself for DEEP HURTING. Previously and again
Alan Steel is my very favorite Hercules. I think it's because he's really, really good the key markers of Hercules as a figure.
1.)Flexing.
2.)Lifting.
3.)Staring meaningfully into the middle distance.
4.)Being conspicuously glossy.
He hits those marks as hard as they can be hit, and never distracts the audience by doing anything else of note. Steel's Herc can flex his way out of any dang problem, even a ponderous device build SPECIFICALLY TO PREVENT HIS TREMENDOUS FLEXING ABILITIES and wouldn't you know he just flexes that machine right to pieces.
Good ol' Hercules.
