Mystery Science Theater 3000: HORRORS OF SPIDER ISLAND
April 25, 2018 9:56 PM - Season 10, Episode 11 - Subscribe
AKA Ein Toter hing im Netz or "Body in the Web." "HAIR-RAISING! SPINE-CHILLING! One bite from a giant spider turned him into THE WORLD'S MOST HIDEOUS MONSTER with a diabolical lust to KILL!" Our movie starts out with guys hiring exotic dancers to send to Singapore, their natural habitat. The contents of the plane are so sexy that it crashes into the ocean. All passengers survive somehow and wash ashore on an uncharted desert isle. The girls celebrate by taking off all their clothes, except of course for their skin-colored bodysuits because we can't have anything risque. Then: SPIDERS! Maybe the writers were having an off week, or maybe news of the show's impending cancellation had affected them, but fans don't consider this episode a favorite. We shall enjoy it all the same. In host segments, Pearl moves her castle to the suburbs for a couple of hours. Episode 1011 is available on YouTube. Premiered July 25, 1999. Two episodes left.

Paul Chaplin's reflections from the ACEG:
We learned, I forget just how, that this movie was a cooperative effort between Germany (West Germany, I assume) and Yugoslavia in the early 1960s. Believe me, I tried like the dickens to provide a joke about the Marshall Plan -- that this was how our U.S. tax money was being used by the good people of Europe, as they attempted to rebuild their economies, and such. To all you Marshall Plan fans out there, I'm sorry.Movie
The weekend after we finished this, I was consumed by curiosity and used all my Frequent Flyer miles to fly to Singapore -- it sounded like such a swinging town! And I was not disappointed. I hooked up with Babs, of course, and we had a great time, and then she decided to fly back to the States with me -- and that's when tragedy struck. We crashed, and I had to depend on Babs to carry me ashore on an island, and take care of me, with her commanding manner. We're still there, in fact, me and Babs. You get used to it after a while. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing going on.

The man-spider monster was extra ridiculous. And the riffing during the dance party was top-notch.

This should be required to be played before and after the episode (if they don't do a karaoke version during the episode).

After we finish out tour of the series, MST Club will continue in somewhat modified form. It'll shift to a "favorites" showing of episodes (get your votes in here!), but we'll also be showing other forms of riffing, like Rifftrax that we've bought, and also plain old bad movies we find on YouTube (that we ourselves can riff) in the first half at the 7 PM slot.
This means we're going to need bad movies! I have some playlists I can turn to, but we can always use more. Please contribute any notable examples of badfilm you've found on YouTube to add to the pile!
