Mystery Science Theater 3000: CATALINA CAPER Rewatch
May 6, 2020 12:25 PM - Season 2, Episode 4 - Subscribe
Re-rewatch! On Thursday: A bunch of teens vacationing in Catalina engage in whimsical frolics, foil the playfully larcenous behavior of one of the teen's parents, and writhe rhythmically to music. The only teenage comedy MST ever did, and rather a classic episode because of it. Previously and previously.
Our show begins Thursday at 7 PM Eastern time, at , with the episode beginning at 9! It's a fun episode!

I think it's popular because--

- It came right around the time the show started to get really good, and was recognized as being such. Probably a decent number of people's first exposure to MST came around that time. When you get hooked on a show, it's often because of an early experience with a really great episode.
- It's not an unwatchable movie. It's not incompetent like Manos, it doesn't put the viewer to sleep like Castle of Fu Manchu, it's not an artifact from another universe where the laws of reason and logic do not apply like Monster A-Go-Go. This means MST newbies can appreciate it, and again, one's first episodes tend end up being favorites.
- It's extremely silly. Joel and the bots have a lot to work with, and finally have the writing staff to really make everything pay off.
- It's got lots of girls in bikinis and shirtless buff guys. Don't discount the T&A factor.

Yeah, the joke came up last night that he was passing on the same day we watched Catalina Caper. Maybe we should find something better with him in it to show Thursday?
