Mystery Science Theater 3000: GIRLS TOWN
October 13, 2016 3:21 AM - Season 6, Episode 1 - Subscribe

Teen girls in a reform school run by nuns mix it up with gangs and each other! Contains Mamie Van Doren, Paul Anka and Mel Torme. And we're off on Season Six, the last full-length Comedy Central season. Some people really like this episode, but most seem to agree the riffing is better than the host segments. It's been a long time since the days when you couldn't get many eps on DVD, but this is one of the few remaining episodes you can still only get through those circulatin' tapes or their online equivilent. YouTube (1h32m) Premiered July 16, 1994.

Daddy-O's Drive-In Dirt - Rotten Tomatoes (Critics N/A, Viewers 13%) - Wikipedia
IMDB (1959, 3.0 stars)
Directed by Charles Haas. Written by Robert Hardy Andrews and Robert Smith. Starring Mamie Van Doren, Mel Tormé and Ray Anthony.

Notes:
Mamie Van Doren's still alive and kicking and has a blog! (Warning: NSFW nudity)

This is the first episode of the late Mike Dodge, one of MST3K's lesser-known writers.

Also in this movie is Dick Contino, the star of Daddy-O.

Satellite News informs us that producer Albert Zugsmith also directed the next movie, 602 INVASION U.S.A.

Another fact that's floating around, the Cathloic Church objected to a shower scene starring Mamie that resulted in it getting cut from the movie.

This is the first episode to feature the "Umbilicus," a tube connection between the S.O.L. and Deep 13, and souce of a number of gags. It's established here that Gypsy is the other end of the tube, but that didn't really last long, did it? The Umbilicus is oft-mentioned for a while, but then gradually becomes less prominent until 706, where it was disconnected in the last Comedy Central episode.

I can't watch Paul Anka being all kindly and wholesome in this without thinking of the wonderful old "The guys get shirts" rant.
