Mystery Science Theater 3000: MERLIN'S SHOP OF MYSTICAL WONDERS   Rewatch
August 21, 2019 5:43 PM - Season 10, Episode 3 - Subscribe

Rewatch! Like some mirror universe version of The Princess Bride, a grandfather tells stories to his grandson, but THIS grandfather is Ernest Borgnine, and THESE stories are horrible tales of soul-draining magic and deadly cursed monkeys, and THIS kid isn't getting any sleep tonight. A highlight of the Sci-Fi Channel run, we're closing in on the most popular episodes now.... Previously.

The monkey story sure seems a lot like a Stephen King story. Like "legally actionable" levels of similarity.

Let's go ahead and get it out of the way here, before I forget....

Every Thursday evening starting at 7 PM Eastern (4 PM Pacific) we hold what we call "Mystery Science Theater Club," or MST Club, a weekly showing of an episode of MST3K with other assorted and hopefully interesting movies and shorts around it. If you like weird stuff in particular you might want to show up at 7, but if just the episode is of interest to you, it begins two hours in, at 9 PM Eastern/6 Pacific. We show stuff after it as well, including, this week, the last episode of one of the secret things we've been showing! There is a chance that I'll put something in earlier too, but no promises, my MST Club evenings are pretty full and I might not have time to put it together.

Next week will probably be a break for us. While I am not going to DragonCon this year, I still think I need a short (one week) break from running MST Club for various reasons. Snake or someone else might run something to fill in (and I might show up depending on how reset my brain is feeling), or they may not. We will see.

I remember some people complaining that “Diabolique” was a poor choice for the finale because there are some that view it as a legitimately good (yet silly) film. When this extra episode came out weeks after the finale, I remember thinking, “Ah! Now this is the craptacular masterpiece worthy of the end of MST3k!”
