Mystery Science Theater 3000: DEVIL FISH  Season 9, Ep 11

"Sink your teeth into pure terror." "Wave goodbye..." Good luck making sense of this horribly-edited movie. A fish (with tentacles somehow) is terrorizing some folk, was made by a villain, and others are trying to stop them. There's some sex in there I think too. Pearl rents the castle out as a cruise ship (what) and Mike twice incurs the wrath of the Space Dolphin empire (what). In a host segment, Crow muses about combining a shark with an octopus, making him technically the ultimate origin of the movie Sharktopus. Thanks a heap, 'bot. Promo The episode itself doesn't appear to be on YouTube. Premiered August 15, 1998. 15 episodes left. [more inside]

Gomorrah: Season One  Season 1, Ep 1

Gomorrah is a television crime drama series set in the suburbs of Naples focusing on the bloody feuding of organised crime syndicates operated by the Camorra. Unlike the Sicilian Mafia the Camorra crime families do not have a hierarchicial structure, instead they vie among themselves for control of the narcotic supply chain and for vital dealing territories in Naples. Set largely in the notorious Neapolitan suburb of Scampia (home to the catastrophic, yet brutally picturesque, social housing project the Vele di Scampia) Gomorrah is based on true-life events and is notable for the relentless pace of its compelling plot, rich character development, and complete lack of sympathetic protagonists. This last feature is no surprise to those familiar with the show's provenance. Roberto Saviano, who wrote the series' eponymous non-fiction polemic exposing the staggering depravity of the Camorra and their depressing reach into every corner of Italian society, has lived in hiding since the book's publication and is one of the series' executive producers. Mystery Science Theater 3000: WARRIOR OF THE LOST WORLD  Season 5, Ep 1

In the future Donand Pleasance has taken over the world as we all knew he would, and it's up to a gravelly-voice drifter and THE MOST ANNOYING TALKING MOTORCYCLE to save it, because the world sucks. Story is that director David Worth was shown the poster art and told to make a movie to go with it. This is the first of two appearances by Donald Pleasance on MST; the second is 903 THE PUMAMAN. This is the episode with "the Paper Chase guy," the Robitussin riff, Servo/Kevin Murphy's riffing on every face in a rapid pan of extras, and the inimitable Megaweapon, voiced of course by Mike. Many fans divide the show into "Joel era" and "Mike era" episodes, but I think the show is as usefully divided at this episode, where that Mike-era feel starts to appear. There are just 12 Joel episodes left. YouTube (1h32m) Premiered July 24, 1993. [more inside]
