Mystery Science Theater 3000: LASERBLAST   Rewatch
October 24, 2019 2:40 AM - Season 7, Episode 6 - Subscribe

Rewatch! A teen with a sad life finds a laser gun in the desert, which turns out to be a particularly bad influence on him. Fortunately the claymation lizard patrol is on the case. This was the last episode in the Comedy Central run of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Previously.

I always enjoy these "peak 1970s" ones.

The sad thing is as a kid, I saw the advertisement for Laserblast, and an article in Starlog magazine, and I was SO excited. I waited eagerly for it to come out, and was disappointed it never arrived in the local theaters. It never occurred to me there was a good reason for that...

What did Starlog have to say about the movie? How do you hype up something like Laserblast?

I saw this in the theater when it came out, with my mom. I remember not thinking it was terrible at the time, but I find it unwatchable now, even with the riffing. I do like the end of the episode, though.

ARgh, I'm having trouble getting into the room tonight (at https://cytu.be/r/Metafilter_MST3KClub). Is anyone else having trouble with cytube tonight?

I think the article came out before the movie, and mostly was just about the stop-motion work. Come to think of it, it might actually have been one of those magazines about special effects.

FWIW, my recollection is Starlog during that era was not generally all that critical of any sci fi flicks. Just thinking these gotta be online somewhere... and here it is!

I, too, remember seeing a trailer for the movie on tv at the time, but never got to see it on the big screen. When I finally got to see it, boy what a painful experience. Yeah, this is one of those that's still pretty unwatchable even with the MST3K commentary.
