Samurai Champloo: Beatbox Bandits (Evil Spirits of Mountain and Stream)  Rewatch   Season 1, Ep 9

The episode is a flashback from a tough checkpoint agent who never let anyone sneak through, on his last day of work. Mugen, Jin, and Fuu need to cross a border so they purchase travel passes since they don't have any. When their passes turn out to be fake, the trio are sentenced to death by the head of the checkpoint, a sadistic man who has family connections that keep him from being disciplined for his brutal actions. However, the guards offer Mugen a chance to save his friends. If he can deliver an object through a forest full of bandits and return before sunset, Jin and Fuu will be spared. Mugen runs afoul of the bandits, who have big plans for a revolution. [more inside]

Aldnoah.Zero: The Unvanquished (Sky of Prayers)  Season 1, Ep 23

Klancain rescues Asseylum and Edelrittuo from the UFE commandos and manages to spirit them out of the moon base in his ship. Mazuurek vows his allegiance to Asseylum, and Asseylum contacts her grandfather, the Emperor. Slaine orders an all-out attack on the Earth forces in space, and enjoins the Orbital Knights on Earth to engage in battle earthside. However, Slaine's broadcast is interrupted by Asseylum's, declaring her intentions for peace between Vers and Earth, and her assuming the throne as Empress of Vers.

Jin, Mugen and Fuu enter an eating contest, thinking they can get free food. Unfortunately for them, there is an entry fee that Mugen and Jin paid with their swords, which they would get if they won the competition. It comes down to Fuu and a mysterious, large foreigner, and Fuu loses on a technicality. The stranger offers Mugen and Jin their swords back for a tour of Edo (old name of Tokyo), which is also foreign to the trio, but Jin forges ahead. When they run into trouble, Mugen and Jin defend the stranger, only to learn that stating his name and role would give him free access of the country. [more inside]

Samurai Champloo: Tempestuous Temperaments (Storm and Stress)  Season 1, Ep 1

Samurai Champloo is a series set during the Edo period (1603–1868), but with mix of anachronistic modern elements, most notably a range of modern hip-hop elements. The first episode introduces the three main characters: the restaurant server, Fuu, a sword-wielding ruffian named Mugen, and a composed samurai named Jin. Jin and Mugen face down the corrupt local politician and his thuggish son's friends (respectively), only to get caught and face execution, which puts their duel on hold, and gets in the way of Fuu's goal of finding the samurai who smells like sunflowers. Aldnoah.Zero: Soldier's Pay (Attack on the Burning Sand)  Season 1, Ep 16

The Deucalion heads back to earth. Slaine is yet to be fully accepted by the other Vers Knights. The faction opposing Slaine's ascendance enjoin Count Mazuurek to begin an offensive. Count Mazuurek, who had so far avoided hostilities with Earth forces, reluctantly deploys in his kataphrakt. Yuki and Marito are part of the squadron sent to intercept Mazuurek. Back in the Vers asteroid base, Slaine realizes he needs to make a grand display of power to silence his detractors.

Aldnoah.Zero: Toll for the Brave (Pivoting Trap)  Season 1, Ep 15

UFE and Vers forces prepare for battle in their respective asteroid bases. Magbaredge informs Inaho about some findings from research on activating Aldnoah Drives using Asseylum's blood. Slaine continues facing contempt from other Vers Counts for being a Terran, but is defended by Saazbaum. Finally the battle starts when the Trident and Marineros bases near each other. Saazbaum also joins the battle in his refurbished Dioskuria II.

Cowboy Bebop: Mish-Mash Blues  Rewatch   Season 1, Ep 27

Due to the violence portrayed in the series, and the violence occurring at the time in Japan, the series was briefly canceled and "Mish-Mash Blues" (fansub transcript; part 1, part 2) was created. The characters provide a philosophical commentary, set to hip-hop loops and played over clips from the first 12 episodes, and it ends with the words: "This Is Not The End. As Mika's group handles the aftermath of the drone incident, Akane tries to determine Kamui's motives behind obtaining Dominators. and confronts Kasei on why she hasn't deactivated Shisui's Dominator privileges. Meanwhile, Mika looks up Togane's background, learning all of the inspectors he had previously worked with became latent criminals, and of his family's medical corporation. As the group examines evidence found in Kamui's hideout, they discover Kamui had used a hologram that was aged up from a child who died in a plane accident 15 years ago. Akane apprehends a surgeon who previously operated on Kamui and has Saiga interrogate him. Pieces start falling together, linking seemingly unrelated events and details together into one complicated web, all connected to Kamui.
