It would be nice to be able to link to publishers when posting books to fanfare in addition to the automatic amazon link. It feels like not giving full credit when the publisher doesn't get a shiny link, too. Maybe this feature already exists and I just don't know about it? [more inside]
I'm currently watching a show on youtube and would love to be able to share my love of it with fellow Fanfare members. Is there any way that can happen? [more inside]
In the spirit of more open-ended conversations on MeFi, I'm just wondering what TV shows, films, books, podcasts, or Youtube channels you're enjoying right now? (Old or new, but if it hasn't been discussed much yet on FanFare, so much the better.) FanFare lurkers, we'd enjoy hearing from you too. [more inside]
I want to make my first book post! And I'm curious where people get the little blurbs? Are you writing them yourself, copying them from the book jacket, or something else? Thanks!
Glee is now on Netflix, and I'm watching it for the first time. Anyone else interested in a rewatch?
Any place for albums or music in FanFare? [more inside]
Maybe this is nuts, but once a rewatch is complete, would it be possible to have the option to reorder the posts to go from first to last? I wanted to skim through the posts on an old show I like, which has been completed, but it's a bit of a pain to have to go back through them in inverse order.
So with only a few days left in Pride Month, would anyone want interested in some fanfare posts on fantasy/SF featuring GLBTQ protagonists? Mainly I want to do posts on Dreadnaught: Nemesis and Dreadnaught: Sovereign. Other books I've read recently include Fire Logic The Murderbot Diaries Daughter of Mystery Does anyone else have any recommendations?
At least in theory. Is anyone else tapping their wand against the AR pensieve and playing this (pokemongo, but pottermore skinned) game by Niantic? It's out now in the US and UK.< [more inside]
Can there be a 'Special Event' thread for tonight's Tony Awards? [more inside]
GoT is done and many of my other shows are done for the season. Anything new shows looking good? [more inside]
I thought the first episode was really good. It had made an oblique appearance here a year ago, but I didn't see that and so hadn't heard of it at all until I was looking for something to watch a couple hours before it started. Top production design, too. 10 episodes. [more inside]
Is anyone interested in reading and threading through the Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix? The series is available in paper, electronic and audible/audio book. Very well represented in public library systems and alternate distribution networks. [more inside]
I fumblefingered around and was shocked to find zero threads for Strange Angel, CBS All Access bioseries about Jack Parsons. Tried to add a thread and could not. I am baffled.
Does anyone watch it or would be willing to comment on a FF post? It's a Disney/Disney XD show that's also available on Amazon Prime. If you like the emotional relationships of Steven Universe, wished that Game of Thrones was more female-positive, or generally like Magical Girl anime, you'd probably like this show! [more inside]
We will be live posting? Also any suggestions for best VPN for the US to access some random stream this year? I'll be streaming some of it from my phone during a kid baseball game.
Lately I've been thinking that I'd like to rewatch the Six Feet Under series. I was surprised to find that it isn't in the FanFare database. Would anyone else like to watch it and discuss each episode in FanFare as we proceed? And if you do, I was thinking I might post one episode thread a day for the entire 63-episode run. Is that a comfortable pace for you?
I've been thinking about rereading Catch-22 and hopefully have it done by the end of the month. Anyone care to join me? [more inside]
I don't know if this is the right place for this kind of request, but would it be possible to start adding the channel or streaming service the show is on, after the title? So "Dead to Me (full season) (Netflix)" [more inside]
Wondering if anyone is watching this Amazon Prime documentary show. Hosted by the lovely and talented Kal Penn (Kumar of Harold and, former Obama admin advisor) and written by the author of The Big Short. Good range of topics from money laundering to our dependence on rubber, and a plethora of guest appearances in amusing skits. I would love to have the hive mind help me fangirl over the fun bits and grouse about questions that are raised but not satisfactorily addressed.
Knightfall - anyone watching - worth watching/ discussing?
Any interest in a full season post on Billions for watching the fourth season?
Anybody else watch this? [more inside]
Anyone up for a thread covering season 3 of Better Things? [more inside]
Tonight is the finale. Can we discuss what we think/feel?
Just dropping a reminder to anyone else who might be interested, the series finale of Your the Worst is tonight. [more inside]
We talked about this last year, but nothing really got set up. Is anyone interested in having a club everything related to the hugo award nominees this year? If so, which categories? What posting schedule would make sense? [more inside]
4 years ago there was some talk on adding comics. I would still like this. What do y'all think?
Any interest in doing a season-by-season rewatch of Game of Thrones ahead of the final season premier next month? [more inside]
So what do we think about depictions of Vulcans and how they have changed across the franchise, ranging from Mark Lenard's Sarek to James Frain's Sarek? [more inside]
Anyone want to discuss the documentary Free Solo? [more inside]
So I read a ton of non-fiction and I bet a lot of other mefites do too, so I've created a non-fiction club to start discussing them. I'm aware this is going to be a pretty broad category, but I kinda like that. I already posted a thread on "Our Native Bees" by Paige Embry, and I hope other people will post more on Non-fiction books too.
Hi guys, I never got rolling on a watch BUT I guess Prime has added the show, maybe that prompted your watchthrough here, I dunno. Since I found the Duffers' Guides I did for VOY and DS9 helpful, I thought you folks might be interested in this "Quick Hack Guide" (terrible name imho) from SyFyWire. I'll repeat this exact post in FanFare Talk (reposted from current active episode thread here )
Anyone interested in watching some movies from the Australian New Wave beyond the most well known examples like Mad Max? [more inside]
Anybody up for this? I like the topic and the cast and creator don't bug me. [more inside]
The 1980 movie starring Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton is streaming on Hulu. Would anyone like to talk about it? As far as I can tell there is not an existing thread on this topic, and searching "9 to 5" doesn't get me anything.
How to discuss the short trek episodes? [more inside]
Trivia fans -may not- have heard of one of the toughest contests of them all ... the KVSC (MN college radio station) contest ... which has been honed for 39 years. This, 40th year, it takes place Feb. 15-17, 2019 . [more inside]
Although my motivation is to possibly hate-watch this, maybe we could do a live setup? And yes, I realize it is coming on in an hour on the East Coast. Sigh.
Following the release of Oscar nominations, ShortsTV usually arranges theatrical and streaming releases of the films in the three shorts categories. I've made posts for these in the past, but the past two years I've run into technical issues. Are these posts worthwhile, and if so, can anyone suggest a good way to handle these? [more inside]
Many of the shows discussed here sound really interesting, but we have no idea how to watch them. Is it on a network? Is it streaming? What network? What service? [more inside]
I thought I would share the books I’m planning on reading and posting about this year (so far) in case anyone wants to read along. Of course, anyone is welcome to post about these books and I’m sure some have been posted about before. [more inside]
So, the final season of You’re The Worst supposedly starts tonight, but I can’t seem to get it clear whether it’s going to be on FXX or that FX+ pay stream service. I looked at my cable listings yesterday and FXX didn’t show YtW tonight.
Pusskillian and I ended up vaguely contemplating a Rivers of London/Peter Grant novels book club independently, and I was wondering if there was anyone else who would be interested (she just finished her reread, I'm on my first read of Foxglove Summer) * How far apart should we post the books? Or just have one post for everything? * I'm sort of assuming that we want to include the novellas, but do we also want to include the graphic novels?
I'm wondering if there's any interest in a FanFare bookclub that focuses on reading Indigenous writers. [more inside]
My yarn shop is showing Firefly again by popular demand, so I figured I'd comment about it. Anyone else interested? It's been almost 4 years since the threads here were active. Would we do a new rewatch thread, or just repopulate the current open posts? (I'll be watching one episode a week starting mid-January.) [more inside]
As stated in the 2017 MetaFilter post, Sue Grafton was "a prolific author of detective novels known for an alphabetically titled series that began in 1982 with ‘A Is for Alibi’…” Her Kinsey Millhone books are quick, delightful and great fun to read. Would anybody be interested in finishing the alphabet with me? [more inside]
This question refers specifically to the recent miniseries adaptation of the 1983 John le Carré novel of the same name. [more inside]
The Tournament of Books is a March-madness style match up of contemporary fiction. The actual competition starts in March, but the longlist is already posted and the shortlist will be announced in January. Would there be interest in a 2019 Tournament of Books book club? [more inside]
Both versions are fantastic but Tim Meadows excels in the US version. The second US season just dropped. Any interest in a discussion or comparison of the two versions?
I just noticed yesterday that Netflix now has what its labeled "The Great British Baking Show - The Beginnings." The first episode (which I'm currently watching) is labeled "Season 1" but there are multiple statements that make it sound like it's not the actual first season. [more inside]
For new TV seasons that get dropped all at once, which is fairly common these days, episode-by-episode is too granular and spammy, but a whole season in one post is awkward for spoiled and unspoiled alike. I think posting half a season at a time would work pretty well for these shows, so being able to select a range of episodes for a post seems like a good idea. [more inside]
I'm wondering if there's interest in discussing the ContraPoints YouTube videos and, secondarily, how it'd fit on FanFare. [more inside]
I've been watching as many of these as I can get my hands on of late, as they are usually pretty terrific, if extremely bleak and dark. 4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days, Graduation, The Death of Mr. Lăzărescu... I'm probably going to be posting a fair number of these over the next few weeks and then wrapping up with an FPP when I run out of films. Anyone who would like to follow along can do so. I'll be posting under the #romanianfilm tag and including links on where to find the films wherever possible. [more inside]
The World Chess Championship 2018 is an chess match between the reigning world champion since 2013, Magnus Carlsen, and challenger Fabiano Caruana to determine the World Chess Champion. [more inside]
The final eight episodes are up on netflix. Most reviews are about offscreen politics and complaints - any metafilter fans who support #metoo and love the vicious Claire Underwood?
